VR & AR (XR) professionals anonymously provide responses that are compiled into a free and public industry-wide report detailing the current state of diversity and inclusion in the global XR ecosystem. This volunteer-led initiative is designed to provide the XR community with a more clear overview of where things stand, in an effort to help identify ways in which we can improve as an industry.
By contributing to the report, we can get a better snapshot of where the industry is today. We need the majority of companies in XR to participate if we want to see real change.
The XRI Survey is designed to provide insight into the current state of diversity, equity and inclusion in the global XR community across three key focus areas:
DIVERSITY
Differences between people that can include dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, age, abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other factors. Diversity empowers us to see past our blind spots and understand the world from different perspectives.
EQUITY
Recognizing that advantages and barriers exist, and that, as a result, we don’t all start from the same place. Equity is a process that begins by acknowledging that unequal starting place then continuing to correct and address the imbalance.
INCLUSION
Including and accommodating all people, with a particular focus on those who have historically been excluded. Inclusion is more than a seat at the table; it’s a voice at the table.
The goal is to measure the core problems and imbalances that exist in the industry so we can work as a community to make improvements and measure impact over time. As the saying goes, “What gets measured gets managed. What gets managed gets done.” The collection of this data enables the entire industry to better understand the current state of D&I within the global ecosystem.
All survey responses are collected through the same SurveyMonkey link and are automatically combined to ensure privacy. XRI does not collect any information aside from that which is provided by the respondent. The final report of combined data will be published freely and publicly for the industry to review.
The data will be held on the SurveyMonkey platform and the compiled results will be made available to the public. Neither the XRI team nor general public will have the ability to connect specific data to unique individuals (unless someone voluntarily adds their name or other identifiable information in the comment section)
XR Inclusion (XRI) is a volunteer-based initiative focused on gathering, organizing and sharing key information and resources to support diversity, equity and inclusion in the XR industry. We work to measure the problems that exist, then develop strategies and initiatives to eliminate them. XRI is a democratic, volunteer-based initiative led by a diverse and global group of XR professionals, D&I experts, lawyers, HR professionals, artists, researchers, and other passionate individuals.
